There are two reasons why shooters and hunting sporters use a magazine base are a primary it's to protect the magazine when it was dropped to the ground in various practical sports. A secondary reason is to extend it below some of the magazines well add-ons and also something to grab if one wanted to pull a magazine that wouldn't drop free.
